Slippery Rock Intramurals

As the Spring semester is upon us, all I can think about is getting into the basketball intramural's.  From someone who played every sport possible in high school to being in college and not being on an athletic team, intramural's is as close as it gets.  Being very competitive and having the passion for sports, getting very into and dedicated to playing is something I am looking forward to.  Being involved in something that is structured, yet has no bad outcome is something I believe is great about intramural's.  You can be very competitive and have great competition with one another, but at the end of the day it is for fun or in most cases bragging rights.  I am really looking forward to playing some hoops, having fun and tasting the competitive nature again.

Technology; PowerPoint and Excel

Sitting in Tech PETE class right now and just hearing about some of the stuff you can do on Excel is amazing.  After a lesson on PowerPoint and learning all of the different kinds of gadgets and effects that can be used on PowerPoint that I never knew about before is unbelievable.  Things such as the hyperlinking on PowerPoint is something so simple, but I was never exposed to it or had to use it so did not know much about it.  Making a virtual game through PowerPoint was really easy and fun and is something we can use in our classrooms.  Now seeing all of the different types of things you can do on Excel, it basically does your grading for you.  All you have to do is set up a template and formation and it can make your job that much easier.  These simple yet creative things you can do on these programs are something I will use throughout my teaching career someday.

Technology; Smartphone's.

It seems almost every month of every year there is a new piece of technology out.  From IPods and IPads, to laptops and tablets.  The pace of our technology growth is so amazing that a lot of people rely on technology gadgets for their everyday lives.  The life of having a Smartphone simply is something that mostly all young adults cannot live without.  From a person who used to own a phone with simply just text messaging and calls (which seemed to be the thing to have when I was younger), to now owning a Blackberry Smartphone the comparisons do not even compare.  Having things such as email, planner books, internet connection, etc simply makes life a whole lot easier.  No longer do we have to wake up and turn on our computers or laptops, but simply just roll over and scroll through our phone.  Having a smartphone can really help organize and help with stressful situations.  I am not saying Smartphone's are something that we cannot live without, but they sure do make life a whole lot easier.

What are some quick, but Healthy Choices for Breakfast?

As a college student, I know more than anybody that a lot of our meals are quick and on the go.  Sure a Pop-Tart is easy to grab and run, but there are plenty of other healthy choices that are easy and benefit us throughout the day.  Little  meals such as small cartons of low-fat yogurt are a good combination of carbohydrates and protein.   These can easily fit into your backpack or purse, and require little or no utensils at all.  Preparing a mini jug of fruit or vegetables can substitute eating that greasy and fattening pepperoni roll.  An energy bar, relatively small, can pack 3 to 5 grams of fiber and 10 grams of protein.  Just a quick thought, before you grab that pop tart or chocolate chip bar remember there are alternative ways to become healthy but also fit the needs of a hungry college student.
